The Kiwanis Club of Missoula was founded by a group of dedicated Missoulians in 1921. We are one of Missoula’s oldest and longest serving service clubs. The club is a special organization of fun-loving members who work hard to help make Missoula a better place to live for all those kids.
Terrific Tuesday meeting yesterday - first Shaina (a future doctor) was recognized as our Lowell School fifth-grade Student of the Month for March!
Then we heard from Dave Scott, a retired Forest Service worker who spent his career fighting forest fires, both on the ground and in management. Dave is the author of a book “Fury of the Beast” - a review of the book begins with "In August of 1973, a young man from Missouri lands a job as a wildland firefighter in a small Montana town. It changes his life forever." Dave’s presentation, also captured in the book, was about the changes in fire behavior and intensity which have required changes in fire fighting tactics and safety standards from the early days of his career to the present age of the mega fires (often a result of the increase in woody debris and changing climate challenges).
Thanks to both Shaina and Dave for making our weekly meeting a great one! ... See MoreSee Less
